“I should have fought harder for him,” she murmured to an empty squad room; or at least what she thought was an empty. She should have known better. She always knows when he’s around, its their way. She should have known he was still there. Still trying to protect her. 

“Liv, there’s nothing you could have done. It was only temporary,” he said. “You know that’s true deep down, even if you can’t admit it yet.” 

He thought he was helping, but really he was just digging the knife in deeper. She didn’t fault him for that, even though it hurt; because she knew him. He was heal an open wound, but what he didn’t know was that this open wound has been gaping for a while. No matter how much Elliot tried to repair the damage this wouldn’t go away.

She took a breath, looked into his eyes and said, “Well it didn’t feel temporary, Elliot. It felt anything but…”
